I needed reading resources, chose these, and they're exactly what I want. Makoto is well-balanced, with short passages, longer passages, cultural information and comprehensive explanations. It enables the user to read fluently without frustration, but also to get to grips with complex or unfamiliar structures and vocabulary. It has enough material to last me the whole month, and, because it is so interesting and diverse, I return to it time and time again. The history reader is going to take me a long time to get through, but I'm really looking forward to the challenge. Again, it has a high level of supporting material, enabling the user to read fluently and to learn at the same time. I know nothing about Japanese history, and I feel that this puts me at a disadvantage. These materials will help me to start to put that right. I bought the JLPT 5 materials because a friend recommended them. We are working through them together now, and it's helping us both to improve our Japanese. All of the resources are very good value for money. They are all well-planned, with excellent learning support. The authors clearly know the difficulties faced by learners of Japanese, and they do everything in their power to ease and accelerate the acquisition of this crazy and wonderful language.
This subscription is a good value of money and content. I would recomend it to anyone who is commited to his studies of Japanese. The Makoto eZine is a good resource for everyone, especially the beginners and the intermediates (even if I consider myself being still somewhere in between those two levels). I appreciate the content which is fun but still you can learn a lot, sometimes I believe even more than from textbooks. You get cultural contents along with grammatical notes plus you have the opportunity to practice reading and learn new vocabulary. I'm highly positive and happy with my purchase even if I'm only with the second issue of my subscription I'm already feeling that these purchase was worth it and I really hope that Makoto eZine will continue to help us for long time. Thank you a lot for this incredible content.
Excellent value and I much prefer to order direct from the Japan Shop as Patreon is awkward and seems slow to respond.
Subscribing to the Makoto magazine happened to be one of the absolute best steps in my Japanese studies. The running gloss and grammar comments in the Readers, that are part of the Makoto magazine contents, give you an opportunity to understand and learn a lot about the Japanese language and grammar. To study the language through coherent texts in the Makoto Readers is an excellent supplement to the otherwise necessary vocabulary and sentence drilling. But what I appreciate most is the highly educational and very interesting contents of the magazine. It gives you insights into the language, the culture and the history of Japan. Really, “The Fun Japanese Not Found in Textbooks”, as the cover of the magazine states. I couldn’t agree more.
Thank you for an incredibly interesting reading!
The Makoto Japanese e-Zine 1 Year Subscription I bought from the Japan Shop is a tremendous value of the highest quality. I can, as a student of Japanese, who has attended Meio University in Japan, categorically recommend the material from the Japan Shop and especially the Makoto Japanese e-Zine Magazine for helping me. Thanks to Clay and Yumi. I am very grateful for all you do so well to help others enjoy the Japanese language and wonderful culture of Japan.
