“I should have bought this book a long time ago. I have been studying Japanese informally for a long time, and this book is improving my knowledge by leaps and bounds. I would recommend it to anyone who has decided to get serious about studying Japanese. It gives clear and simple instructions on how to write and read all the one hundred characters in the book” - by FantasyFan on October 13, 2012

I really really enjoy listening and reading these stories. I am learning words and kanji easier now that I have something fun and interesting to read! Also my listening comprehension has gone up!
Better than I expected. +++++++
Entertaining and great for those of us in the not-so-advanced stages of learning Japanese. I found having the audio read at normal and slow speed very helpful. I could listen on slow and catch things I wasn't as familiar with for further study and then on normal to check my comprehension after studying.
I absolutely LOVE them! They are super easy to follow, interesting and best of all- they work! My understanding has jumped several levels since I started using them! Definitely recommend!!
I love these so much. I like that I can learn through stories. The audio is read slow and normal tempo. All the sentences are broken down word by word. I highly recommend these stories.
I like the way the book is set up. It offers the word with the translation and example sentences. I also liked that it was an instant download. I can get it straight to my computer or phone. It comes with audio however, I have not used it yet.
I'm a beginner and I use the readers in conjunction with various apps and Japanese manga. I'm excited to see more advanced material and also an integrated learning experience where the audio is linked to the written narrative, but I'm still really happy with the readers as they are presently. Thanks for your hard work and awesome job!
I got this for my husband, and he really enjoyed it. It fits him well. It came faster than I expected, as well. Thank you!
The study materials (and the great service provided during the entire ordering process) are excellent!
Before I retired I was teaching Norwegian to immigrants, and a Challenge was to find texts that were quite easy but at the same time really interesting. I wish I had come across The Japan Shop earlier ;-)
I am still struggeling with the language, but by breaking down the texts I am eventually able to get a grip of the texts. Keep up the good work! :-)
Really a good way to increase your readings skill.
I love these stories. I am a beginner, have been learning japanese by self study for the past few months, and have found these to be a great resource for practice and learning. The breakdown of every word really helps me to learn a lot.
Excellent material in both the PDF's and mp3's. Love the large fonts for the Kanji, makes recognition practice much easier.
Your store is great service to my study of Japanese.
These are great for those who have been studying Japanese and want to practice their reading skills. The stories are geared towards beginner-intermediate to intermediate level Japanese learners. I love that they come with audio files of the stories being read in real time and slower so you can listen while you read. Also, you can't beat the price which includes future releases with purchase. Thank you The Japan Shop!!
The scroll hanging is fine and has been up for quite a while. It's fine.
Many people ask if these stories will help them to learn Japanese from scratch. I agree with the answer that The Japan Shop gives: they will not! That being said, I still think they are worth the purchase because they are fun and can provide some practice if you have already learned quite a bit of Japanese but not are not yet fluent.
I read the first story VERY slowly as the grammar and vocabulary was quite a bit ahead of my level but I used a dictionary and did my best to piece the sentences together as I went along. I also double checked in the footnotes (translation of each word and explanation of some of the grammar) at the end of each page of each story so I wasn't left guessing whether I understood the story or not. The stories provide Japanese reading (with footnotes), English reading, and Japanese listening too so there is some variety to how you can use the stories for your learning.
Overall, I think that these stories are a great supplement if you are currently learning Japanese. They are definitely not for beginners (or even intermediate really), but if you are patient and willing to use a dictionary as you read then the stories are very fun! Definitely recommend!
An interesting story is written in kanji but with furigana makes it easier to read for us who are not familiar with many kanji. The vocabulary is nicely made by words from story and grammar form explanations. I like the most the all-Japanese part story, without vocabulary on the bottom of the page where I can test my knowledge.
The audio materials are a very good way to become friendy with the way Japanese is spoken and the fact that the book contains a few audio version, leveled by speed, is just awesome.
The download was easy and quick and so far I love the product too.
Good size on text, easily read.
The audio quality is good, very clear sound.
It was really nice to be able to get several different items together. I love Ukiyoe and was very happy to be able to get the prints. Having lived in Japan, it was all very nostalgic and each item brings a smile to my face :-).
The slow speed is perfect for the beginner. Here I have the opportunity to read and listen to an interesting story and get a feeling for the rhythm of the language. The explanations are so detailed you wouldn’t even need the full translation at the end.
This is great for beginner to intermediate levels.
these stories come with narration, normal or slow.
it can be hard to find listening practice that is slow enough for me to follow, these are the best!
I've listened to these mp3's five to ten times each and I live them. I really like how there's two versions of each, a normal speed and slowly read. They're really great.
This book set was super helpful in progressing my japanese understanding of language and grammar. Well worth the price
I love this shirt and I get compliments from other people about it
I gave not gotten very far in these lessons, but they rtwach Japanese the way I like kearninga language. After learning the writing system (with excellent Hiragami materials) you jump in a read. All the Japanese is glossed, so you know what it means, and the grammatical notes explain what you need to know to understand why it means what it does. I have used this method before with some languages that are somewhat similar to English (Italian, for example), and one with a different alphabet (Greek), but never for a completely different language. I look forward to working more with the stories.
I enjoy reading the books
Exactly what I was looking for to improve reading speed !
I have really enjoyed reading and listening to these fairytales as a way of supplementing my language study. So helpful!
Really enjoying my purchase.
This books are good for learning how to read Kanjis.
