I really enjoyed the stories in this book. They are interesting and all have a fun twist at the end. Reading each story is easy but also challenging at the same time, the way Clay and Yumi have structured the book.

You can read the story three ways: 1) with a running glossary alongside the Japanese text, which has all of the words in the story, in order, defined 2) strictly the Japanese text and 3) an English summary. (There is also a glossary in the back, if you choose to read the Japanese only version and need to look up a word.)

Though there isn't much grammar help in this book, enough information is provided to help the beginning student puzzle out meaning on his or her own, which is a fantastic feature. Even for me, an advanced Japanese learner, I was challenged by archaic wording and phrases and words I didn't know. This book is great for various stages of early Japanese learning.

I hope Clay and Yumi create another collection. This was a very fun and useful learning tool!
